The St-Laurent Amateur Football Association was created in 1954 in the borough of St-Laurent (then city of St-Laurent) to promote and organize the practice of tackle football within its limit for the local youth. Its teams all play under the nickname the Spartans.
Along with Sun Youth football, it is the oldest youth football organization in the Province of Quebec still in existence.
Although the association retains a strong sense of local identity and a solid link to the administration of its borough, today, its territory also extends to adjacent areas, such as the Town of Mount Royal or Cartierville-Ahuntsic.
The association covers all categories of organized football for players aged 6-17 and plays games at the AAA level in the Montreal Regional Football League (MRFL), the Quebec Bantam Football League (QBFL) and the Quebec Midget Football League (QMFL).
Since its inception, the club has maintained its home at St-Laurent Park, located at 845 Poirier, for its main playing and practice field. However, during the off-season, the club also practices at the St-Laurent Sports Complex and at Vanier College.
The Spartans have participated in AAA championships since their very beginning and have taken honors homes most recently taking home the Inter-Provincial championship at peewee level in 2019. The association also sees a number of its players selected to All-Star teams at the U15, U17 and U18 levels on a yearly basis.
Over our six decades numerous exceptional players have started their journeys at St-Laurent Park. Amongst them Brian Forde (Washington State University and New Orleans Saints), Eddie Azcona (University of Michigan) and also Andrew Seinet-Spaulding (Calgary Stampeders and 2019 recipient of the J.P. Metras Trophy) without forgetting the association’s current president Shawn Daniels (Bowling Green University and a 14-season CFL veteran).
